The Rotaract Club of Colombo marked forty years of service in Sri Lanka on the 9 September 2009. The Rotaract Club of Colombo is the first Rotaract Club to be established in Sri Lanka and has a history of appreciated community service and professional development spanning 40 years; hence this year’s theme has been chosen to be ‘Celebrate Rotaract’.
The Rotaract Club of Colombo is organizing a series of projects to mark the anniversary in September and some of them include community service projects as well as projects to project the image of Rotaract across the country.
Rotaract is a movement found worldwide for young men and women aged between 18 to 30 years who believe they can make a difference by serving their communities. Rotaract clubs are usually community or university-based and sponsored by a local Rotary club, making them true ‘partners in service’ and key members of the Rotary family. The Rotaract movement encompasses all facets of life with 4 main avenues of service – namely, Community Service, Professional Development, International Understanding and Club Service.
Through the Rotaract program, young adults not only augment their knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, but also address the physical and social needs of their communities while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service. As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service, with more than 8,000 Rotaract clubs in 163 countries and geographic areas, Rotaract has become a worldwide phenomenon.
