Fundraising - Wild Wild West! What a night!

The club had its first major fundraiser on the 21st of December at ONYX Taj Samudra. The theme party "Wild Wild West" was an unprecedented success. Breaking the clubs own record for the single most amount of funds raised by one event.
We sincerely thanks our main sponsors Wild Elephant and Sri Lanka Telecom and our Media sponsors Yes fm, Channel 1 MTV and Wijeya Newspapers for making it possible. We also thank the management and staff of ONYX for joining us on the endevour. Congratulations to the project chairs Mufa and Fardi, and also all those who helped in many ways. N0t forgetting all those who came to the event! What a way to end the year!

Community Service - Birthday Bash and Christmas Party

(click for larger view)

This project was initiated by our Parent Club the Rotary Club of Colombo, in conjunction with all the Rotaract and Interact Clubs within its purview. Each month, on one Sunday, we throw a party in honour of the children who are celebrating their birthday that month. This month was extra special as it was Christmas too! Over 90 kids received presents from Santa, enjoyed a Merry-go-round, thier faces being painted, Pin the beard on the Santa games and lots of love and cuddles! We were proud to be apart of this initiative and hope to continue the same next year!

Community Service - Kalpitiya Visit

Rtr. Manesha, Husna, Harsha and Imran visited Kalpitiya to assess the progress of the on-going English Language Teaching Project. This was funded by last year's "Arabian Night" Theme Party. Working in conjunction with the Humanitarian Brotherhood Foundation, we helped the first ever batch of students to sit English O'levels (Sri Lankan O'levels) in that region.

Community Service- "Aids Walk" Stop Aids Keep the Promise

The Rotaract Clubs of Battaramulla, Colombo Millennium City and the Rotaract Club of Colombo, organised a joint walk in an attempt to create Aids Awareness. Unfortunately the walk which had been originally scheduled for the 2nd of December got postponed to the 16th of December which reduced the number of participants originally expected. Well done to all 3 clubs who despite difficulties went ahead with the walk!
Thank you to President Randhika and all those who lent a helping hand!

Drama Camp Rocks!

Cinderella with her Prince Charming!

Hi everyone,
On last Friday, the 18th, we had the Drama Camp, as part of the Summer Camps 2006.
18 kids turned up! the average age being 6-7 years.... and needless to say, while we gave them an experience in drama, they gave us one-hell-of-an-experience/lesson in PATIENCE! :) Anyway, the kids were really really cute, talented and unbelievably creative!
Just a recap on the day.......
we had planned a couple of simple activities/exercises with them, on stuff like character building, confidence building, voice (to help them be heard when they are on stage), etc etc. But it turned out that these little kids were over-confident and were a tad bit too loud!...... so, we had to kind of come up with different stuff for them to do last minute :).
We ended the camp by breaking them into 3 groups, and got them to do little skits of famous fairy tales, but with a twist! :) Sheetal, Revan and Imran did a fantastic job with handling each of the groups.
Really guys, you all should have been there to experience the drama the kids put up that day. We had snow white captured by the wicked step-mother, and SpiderMan to her rescue!. The other play was that of Robin Hood, who is accompanied by King Richard in his quest to rescue his girlfriend! :). and we had the all-time popular Cinderella, who intends to reach the Ball in a 'wolf-drawn' carriage, but is sadly killed on her way there by the wolf....
finally allowing the step-mother to marry the Prince! :) And thats just a 'summary' of the creativity that these kids displayed that day!
Ok, well, Ive spent enough time typing this out, but just HAD to tell you guys abt it. :) Sheetal, Imran and Revan... Thank You so much guys for the ideas and support before and on that day. You guys were super!
Pls find attcahed just a couple of pictures. my favourite is that of Cinderella and her Prince during 'rehearsals' (it was not part of the play :). Think they actually had something going there! :)
To the organising committee of Summer Camps - 3 Cheers! Well done!
