RCC donates dry-rations to Muslim families in Kalpitiya for Ramadan

With the objective of helping the Internally Displaced Persons the best way the club can by collecting donations for the families living in Kalpitiya.

Back ground: According to 2001 statistics 55, 807 people are living in Kalpitya DS Division and from them 36, 291 persons are IDPs. Most of the IDPs in Kalpitya DS Division are Muslims and they were displaced from Jaffna in 1990 due to escalation of violence in the Peninsula. Today IDPs are living in 90 Welfare Centers and Relocation Villages.

Most of them were displaced during 1990 – 1992 period from Jaffna. They have come by foot or via sea and have settled in this bare land in Sinnekudrippuwa Grama Niladari Division. After that the land was bought from the owner by IDPs and settled in that land. They had 10 perch each. But as the families expanded now 2 or 3 families are sharing 10 perches of land. But the soil and surroundings are extremely dry.

Majority of the families complained that sufficient rice is not available at the MPCS. Therefore the need to supply dry rations to families during the holy month of Ramazan was much needed.

Below is a list of items which RCC donated for 100 families:

  1. 1000 Kg Rice
  2. 400 Kg Sugar
  3. 100Kg Milk
  4. 100Kg Dhal
  5. 200Kg Tea
