John Kenny, a member of the Rotary Club of Grangemouth, Central, Scotland, was elected as the 2009-10 president of Rotary International at the fourth plenary session of the RI Convention in Los Angeles in June 2008.
In his acceptance remarks, Kenny expressed his gratitude for the support and encouragement that he and his wife, June, have received.
"We have come from a small country of five million people with three Rotary districts," he said, "and it is therefore a special honor to be the first Rotarian from Scotland to be president in the history of Rotary -- and only the fifth from the British Isles."
