Charityapple.org!
"Yes I know I haven't posted in a long time but it feels good to get back to action writing about something so meaningful. Yesterday was the launch of www.CharityApple.org, a project by the Rotaract Club of Colombo. In a nutshell, this site links up those who want to help, with those who need help. Most people at some point feel the need to help the less fortunate but just don't know where to begin or how to get about doing so, and this is where CharityApple can play an important role. Upon entering the site, you are given the choice of either contributing in a minute or in a few hours. If you have the inclination to help but just don't have the time, you can choose the former option and donate money to a charity of your choice. If you have more time, however, you can choose to spend some time with a charity of your choice. The categories currently available are Elderly, Relief Work, Children, Animals, Environment, and General. This is an unconventional concept and move away from the run-of-the-mill charity sites out there in the sense that it empowers people to get involved and make a meaningful contribution, increasing the level of volunteerism in the country. A lot of these charities have adequate funding but many, especially the elders’ homes and the orphanages, lack the personal touch that makes life for those at these places more bearable. Spending time with the elders and the orphans can make a world of a difference for them, much more than any monetary donation.

Community Service - Maliyadda Junior School, Makehelwala, Mawanella.
Initiated by Rtr. Piyumika, we visited Maliyadda Junior School in Mawanella, to handover a few necessities and donate funds to build a fence. However, we also felt, that once seeing the school it could do with some basic renovation and fresh paint!
So we are going on the 31st of March (this Saturday) with your paint brushes to add some colour to the school days of some very gorgeous children! Please join us!
